We have studied hotel occupancy and found that it is not a good indicator of crowd levels. Disney does a good job keeping its hotel rooms full. Disney host many conventions and sports competitions that will fill rooms but not necessary impact park attendance. During low crowds, Disney will offer discounts to compete with offsite hotels. Disney also schedules room refurbishments during slow times, reducing the number of available rooms.
We do track Disney's hotel discounts, which have proven to be a better "crowd" indicator than room occupancy.
